Running efax with US-Robotics 14.4 (HELP!!!)

Post by Andre Tau » Sun, 08 Jan 1995 02:13:13

Hello everyone!

Is anyone running efax or other fax application with US-Robotics modem???

I believe that my fax/modem is a type( level ) 3.  However, fax script
for efax have settings only for type 1 and 2.

Could anyone, please, explain me how to set it up???

Thanks a lot!

Andre

type? level? what are you talking about???

There are fax *groups*, which describe what is happening on the phone
line. Usually you'll see "group 3", on ISDN also "group 4".

Then, there are fax *class*es, which describe the language the computer
talks to the modem. There are class 1 (host does all the work, modem is
dumb), class 2 (pre-cut of the class 2.0 standard) and class 2.0 (the TIA/
EIA standard; modem has to be fairly smart, computer doesn't have to meet
as harsh timing restrictions as in class 1).

Efax can do class 1 and 2, the USR is class 2.0, which is incompatible.
Check mgetty+sendfax or FlexFax for 2.0 support.

I believe the original poster was asking about (as the subject
suggests) the USR Sportster 14.4, which is a Class 1 fax-modem.  The
Courier supports 2.0, I believe, but not the Sportster (not MY
Sportster, at any rate).

Hmmm...has anyone here considered compiling a Fax FAQ or HOWTO?  There
seem to be a lot of similar questions popping up regularly
here--enough perhaps to warrant it, I think.

Cheers,

1. US Robotics MODEM Sportster 14.4 Internal

Hello,

I'm just about to purchase some US Robotics 14.4 Internal FAX/MODEMs
which I intend to setup on IRQ2 and COM3 (that's the only feasible
IRQ I can use). Will Linux give me some problems with the IRQ2
setup for the cards ?

Thanks,

Eric
