I have been trying to install Slackware 2.0.1 from a Sanyo/
Media Vision CDR-H93RMV CD-ROM drive using a Sunjack SCSI controller,
which has a Future Domain TMC-18C30 chip. The Slackware SCSI boot disk
recognizes 0 SCSI devices. The Sunjak BIOS gives this message when
booting the computer:
SUNJAK TECHNOLOGY, SJ-600S BIOS V3.51
(C) 1993,1994 FUTURE DOMAIN CORP
Scanning Controller 0...
ID 1 MEDIAVISCDR-H93MV Firmware 1.41 (A).
The card is at IRQ11 and address 0140, which are mentioned as supported
in the SCSI HOWTO. The HOWTO mentions support for BIOS versions ranging
from 2.0 to 3.4, which may be why the V3.51 BIOS doesn't work.
My question is whether this is really the problem, or whether my card
will never work because it is a clone and not the real thing - the HOWTO
mentions the TMC-18C30 chip is supported but says nothing about my Sunjak
card, and I don't know enough about SCSI controllers to know whether its
the chip that's important or the whole card. And if the BIOS version is
the only problem, will an updated driver be coming out?
BTW, I know the chip is a really a Future Domain TMC-18C30 because that's
what's printed on top of the chip.
Thanks,
Christopher Alexander
