Can't Mount Sony CDU33A

Post by Jack VandeBun » Sun, 25 Dec 1994 18:25:44

Ok, I'm trying to mount my Sony CDU33A CDROM drive under 1.1.73

This line is in my lilo.conf file:   append="cdu31a=0x230,0"

I have entered the following command: mknod /dev/cdu31a b 15 0

I issue the following command: mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdu31a /cdrom -r
(The directory /cdrom does exist.)

I get the following error message: mount: /dev/cdu31a not a mount point

/var/adm/messages produces these two lines:

Dec 24 04:21:38 my_linux kernel: ll_rw_block: Trying to read nonexistent block-
device 0F00 (32)
Dec 24 04:21:38 my_linux kernel: isofs_read_super: bread failed, dev 0xf00 iso_
blknum 16

Any ideas as to what the problem is? I have read the CDROM_HOWTO and followed
the troubleshooting tips to no avail.

Something trvial, but perhaps it helps ...
I'm rather new to Linux, but from SunOS, I'd expect a little syntax change:

Instead of
mount -t /dev/cdu31a /cdrom -r

I suggest trying

mount -rt /dev/cdu31a /cdrom

The mounting point (/cdrom) should be the last item in the command,
and, as "/mounting point -option" probably doesn't make sense to the OS, this
*might* be a clue.

Can't Mount Sony CDU33A

Post by Jack VandeBun » Wed, 28 Dec 1994 16:01:19

I am having problems mounting my Sony cdu33a into Slackware with 1.1.73

I recompiled the kernel with CDROM support for the cdu31a and issue the
following command to mount it:

[gdangus] [~/] -] mount -t iso9660 -r /dev/cdrom /cdrom
mount: /dev/cdrom not a mount point
[gdangus] [~/] -]

This produces the following messages in /var/adm/messages:

[gdangus] [~/] -] tail /var/adm/messages
Dec 27 01:57:52 gdangus kernel: ll_rw_block: Trying to read nonexistent block-device 0F00 (32)
Dec 27 01:57:52 gdangus kernel: isofs_read_super: bread failed, dev 0xf00 iso_blknum 16

The directory /cdrom does exist, and I have done a mknod /dev/cdu31a b 15 0
and then linked /dev/cdrom to it. (Using /dev/cdu31a straight doesn't change
anything at all. Same errors.)

Please email suggestions (or solutions) to me.
