i dont know about the original poster, but i dont think it says that in
my documentation.  i certainly hope not, since it isnt true for my
modem.  i suppose it may be for yours.

So How do you get dip-3.3.7 to work at 57600???  Every time I try setting
the speed of dip to 57600, I get an error.  I can set it to 38400, but
then I am losing 50% of that extra speed.

Thanks,

Fairly simple.  before you enter dip, type:
   setserial /dev/cua1 spd_hi
(where /dev/cua1 is com1)
Then go into dip and us the 38400 settings as normal.  Setserial spd_hi
sets the 38400 speed to mean 57600.

In point of fact, what you have stated is only correct for earlier versions
of dip.  With dip 3.3.7, if you specify a speed of 57600, dip will set the
high-speed bit itself.  If you specify a lower speed, it will ensure that
both high- and very-high-speed bits are cleared.

I'm not quite sure what the problem is, but it isn't that....

Easily.

1. Set speed of DIP to 57600.
2. Do "setserial /dev/ttyS1 spd_hi
3. Make sure you have hardware flow control (RTS?CTS) enabled.

This is tested to nauseum with dip-3.3.7-uri...

Yeah...

No!! DIP needs to be told the REAL speed, i.e. 57600 in
this case.

dip at 14.4??

Well, I understand how you set dip to operate at a higher speed. I think
my problem is to set getty (on the other machine) to a higher speed than
9.600 baud.
What is the trick? Is it in etc/gettydefs? Can someone who is using slip
over a cable at more than 9.600 baud post (or mail me)
his gettydefs?

Thanks,

Caro

Setting a faster getty should do the trick.  I don't use dip, but
if you want to change the getty settings ... First, your /etc/gettydefs is
probably ok, but you should make sure the following line is in it ...

Now, go into /usr/etc/inittab and change the getty for the device you're
interested in ...

#S1:456:respawn:/etc/uugetty ttyS1 9600      <== the old inittab line.
S1:456:respawn:/etc/uugetty ttyS1 38400      <== the new inittab line.

Now, send init a SIGHUP (kill -HUP 1) and you're in business.

1. DIP and Supra 14.4 Modem

Hello all...  It seems that DIP doesn't like (or something on the system)
doesn't like my Supra 14.4k external faxmodem.  Whenever I connect to
my service provider, I get nothing but garbage, however the modem works
great under DOS.  Same init string, etc. as the settings I use in DOS,
but it refuses to get a clean connection.  I also have a Microcom 28.8k
modem, and it works flawlessly with DIP or any other Linux app.  Any
suggestions?  Thanks...
