SMAIL AND MAILING PROBLEM!

Post by Dave Ro » Wed, 12 Jan 1994 09:41:14

Hello, I am having a problem mailing...everytime I mail someone it
sends me back an error report saying the following:

Date: Mon, 10 Jan 94 18:36 GMT

Subject: mail failed, returning to sender

|------------------------- Message log follows: -------------------------|
no valid recipients were found for this message
|------------------------- Message text follows: ------------------------|
Received: by draco.bison.mb.ca (Smail3.1.28.1 #3)
        id m0pJRTv-0006FQC; Mon, 10 Jan 94 18:36 GMT

Date: Mon, 10 Jan 94 18:36 GMT
From: drose (Dave Rose)

And the /usr/spool/smail/logfile says the following:

01/10/94 18:36:51: [m0pJRTv-0006FQC] received
|            from: drose
|         program: sendmail
|            size: 53 bytes
01/10/94 18:36:52: [m0pJRTw-0006FKC] received
|            from: <+>
|            host: draco.bison.mb.ca
|        protocol: bsmtp
|         program: sendmail
|            size: 641 bytes
01/10/94 18:36:53: [m0pJRTw-0006FKC] delivered
|              to: drose
|         orig-to: <drose>
|        director: user
|       transport: local

I am noticing the bsmtp as the protocol being used...this used to
work before, I  must have changed something, but I don't know what.
Can anyone help me out?

Well I can point out one thing... There's no To: line that's why there
isn't any valid recipients... Check the mailer that your using to send
it... Try just keeping it local (ie try not to use the smtp protocals)
and seeing if it includes the To: line then if so then check to see if
it sends it to the smtp port when it connects... etc...

hope this helps...

SMAIL AND MAILING PROBLEM!

Post by Gary Anders » Sat, 15 Jan 1994 03:13:23

I had a similar problem when, in using Pine 3.85, I upgraded my shell to
BASH-1.13.  There was a small bug in Pine.  I don't have the fix or diffs
here in the office, but if it's still giving you problems, e-mail me, and
I'll send them off to you.  There's a new version of Pine out (3.89, I
think) in which this bug should be corrected.  I understand Elm also had
this same problem that was evidenced when people changed to BASH 1.13.
That has also since been fixed.

Ok, great, I'll upgrade my pine and elm then, and I'll move back up
to bash 1.13...were there any other programs that need fixing that you
are aware of? I'd really like to make sure before I destroy things
again. :)

Dave,
None that I'm aware of, and I've been running BASH 1.13 for a couple of months now.

1. SMAIL problem: Doesn't deliver mail-forward problem.

I'm having a problem with smail. It's not delivering mail. A look
at msglog shows "(ERR_112) director forward: alias database
/usr/lib/smail/forward: Database not found."

I'm currently running 1.1.45 slackware, and smail version 3.1.28.
It used to work before, but not now after I've been trying to put myself
on the internet (currently between internet feeds.)

Is this a common problem, or will I have to provide some more
in-depth information. What is the format of /usr/lib/smail/forward? Can
someone email me their forward file, or can you deactivate it?

Much thanks to anyone who can help.

        -Mark
