PC Internal Speaker --> /dev/audio ?

Post by Jun Ti » Sat, 22 Jan 1994 03:55:54

Hi, Linux friends,
I am trying to use the Unix command "cat" to play .au files under Linux on
the PC, i.e.,
   cat filename > /dev/audio
Right now I only have the PC internal speaker, and don't know how to make
it as /dev/audio. Any help will be appreciated!

Get pcspkdrv (or something like that) from
ftp.funet.fi:/pub/OS/Linux/kernel

The sound is not very impressing, but it works.

... heavy metal sig. censored ;-)

To qualify that a bit: The quality of the generated sound varies heavily
from system to system. Really depends on your internal speaker. It is
more the mechanical properties of that speaker than its 'quality'.

So, your mileage may vary....
