Newest Slackware distribution - tsx-11 or sunsite ?

Post by BAGLEY » Wed, 05 Oct 1994 00:43:03

I've noticed that the Slackware distribution at tsx-11 has some extra
disks not included at sunsite (such as x9).  Is this a newer distribution
than the one at sunsite ?

The newest distribution is always on ftp.cdrom.com:/pub/linux/slackware

That is the home site for slackware.

Actually, as I understand it, due to some problems at cdrom.com, the
Slackware home site was recently changed to mrcnext.cso.uiuc.edu.
Slackware 2.0.1 will be there soon if it isn't already.

We mirror ftp.cdrom.com and have updates through Oct 2, 1994.  The
site is ftp.halcyon.com.

But don't sunsite and tsx-11 mirror the home site daily?

>But don't sunsite and tsx-11 mirror the home site daily?

tsx-11.mit.edu is good about this, but sunsite is nearly always behind.
Also, sunsite can take several days to catch up once it starts, leaving a
broken mix of old and new for those unlucky enough to stumble into the
trap.  I wish I could recommend it as a place to get Slackware, but I
can't.  To be honest, it was easier when sunsite wasn't a mirror site,
especially since other sites mirror from them.
