Help with (DTC) SCSI controller, please...

Post by James R. Twi » Thu, 17 Nov 1994 06:24:24

<I posted this to comp.os.linux[.misc] but I do not believe that I posted it
here...  Sorry if I am wasting bandwidth>

Hello all...

I am attempting to install Linux on my system.

I have two SCSI drives, one of them for DOS, and the other for Linux.
The drive that I have for Linux is a 1 Gig that has been partitioned in
half, 500 Megs each.

Now the problem...  I have a DTC 3280 SCSI Host Controller! :(

I read in the Linux SCSI-HowTo that a driver could not be written and
distributed with source code, but could (has?) someone write one and
distribute it w/o the source code?

I would just like to know if there is anything I can do about this
situation, save buying another SCSI Controller...

        Adva[Thanx]nce!

                                James.

Whoops. We have one of those here - bad news.

No.

Sell your DTC to a DOS user. Its not a bad DOS SCSI controller but the only
way to run it under Linux is with the BIOS hdd drivers that Yggdrasil have
contributed patches for. Then it'll be slow and unpleasant but may work

I have a DTC 3290HD EISA SCSI Caching controller, which I would like to
use with Linux.  I have read the SCSI-HOWTO, and according to it, the
3290 should work with Linux (using the AHA154X drivers)... but it does not.

Does anyone know if there is a patch available somewhere that I can use
to get this card to work in Linux?  I dont care if it slows the system
down, I just need this card to work.  Thanks in advance.
