Diamond Stelath 64 -- Unrecognized chipset $d0

Post by Jered J Flo » Thu, 08 Sep 1994 01:00:36

The Diamond Stealth 64 is based on the S3 Vision964, which I believe is
backwards compatible with chips like the 911. But when I run the S3 server
for X, is reconizes an S3 chipset, then quits with Unrecognized chipset $d0
(or something very similar)

How can I tell X to ignore the unreconized chip, and just RUN?

now chance, it will stumble but won't run ;-)

Wait for the XFree86 3.1 announcement end of this month.
This version will support S3 964.

Harald, does this mean Diamond's S3 964 will probably in offical support
in the XFree86 3.1? Thanks in advance!

I would say: since there is no official Diamond support nor documentation
without NDA for XFree86 it's hard to speek of an "offical" support for the
Stealth64. But that's my private opinion.

For a more official statement, you should look for postings from
David Wexelblat or Dirk Hohndel.

1. Help, unrecognised S3 968 chipset on Diamond Stealth 64

I am trying to configure XFree86 v.3.1.1 for a Diamond Stealth 64 Video 2M VRAM
board.
Using the XF86_S3 server, X -probeonly reports as follows:-

 .....  S3: Unknown S3 chipset: chip_id = 0xfffff0e1 rev. 31
*** None of the configured devices was detected. ***

Diamond's GO95 Diagnostic routine reports:-

S3/968 PCI controller, device ID: F0
        TI3026/175M DAC on board

The 968 chipset and TI3026 RAMDAC aren't supported, though the 964 and TI3025 are.
Diamond's documentation says that the chipset is compatible with the 928 chipset,
which is supported by XFree86.
What do I do? Is there a workaround for this, or do I have to wait for a revision
of XFree86? Is anyone working on this?
