last / logs

Ok I have another question -- well two actually.

When you type last you know it gives you a list of logins.  Do I have
to delete that file in order to prevent it from becomming a big file
or does the system purge it automatically?

Also what other files of that nature grow and need to be purged on a
  regular basis.

  Thanks.
