This has already been discussed in this newsgroup, just a few days ago.
The problem is caused by the detection routine for another chipset (the
pvga1 driver in the SVGA server) corrupting something on the Cirrus
5434 chip. A work-around is to use a Chipset "clgd5434" line in the
Device section, avoiding the detection routines.
Apart from this, the textmode font may not be correctly restored, but
that should be fixable by reloading the VGA textmode font, i.e. using
programs like runx/restorefont/setfont.
