### Telnet over SLIP hangs after sometime ###

Post by mvale.. » Wed, 13 Jul 1994 03:05:32

  Yo all:

I have a Linux machine on the Internet.

I have been setting up SLIP access to it, and although
everything has worked OK ( I'm now able to dial the Linux
machine and have Trumpet Newsreader reading News, Mosaic
accessing our WWW server and FTPing files ) I still have
 a problem ( two actually )

  - when using telnet ( Trumpet Telnet or Microsoft Telnet
or WIinQVT or any other ) the connection works for sometime
but it stops working after a few minutes. I dont know why
this is ( and it cant be a CSLIP/SLIP or MTU size problem
because all the other applications work.

  - when using Trumpet Newsreader to read news it hangs when
scanning for articles if I have nntpd running. If I have
nnrpd ( from INN ) running I'm able to scan the articles
 but unable to post.

If anyone has any hints on any of these they are welcome.

  C U!

I also have this problem so any help would be appreciated.  I work around it
by using linux on both ends.  Doesn't help when I need to use WP though.

I had a similar problem under another OS (Ultrix). Turned out that I needed to
turn off XON/XOFF flow control on the modem. ATS58=0 did the trick on a telebit
WorldBlazer modem.

1. ftp sometime slow to connect sometime ok

hi,

I've observed some really strange behavior using ftp. I have two linux
box (Red hat 6.2), one ftp server with two network interface a wired and
a wireless and a client just with a wireless adapter. What i want to do
is to download file from the server to the client over the wireless lan.
I have added entries in the /etc/hosts.conf on both machine, telnet for
example works fine but ftp sometime take up to 2 minute to connect and
sometime connect straifght away? What could cause that?

note that beacause my server is also part of a wireless lan their are
entry in /etc/resolv.conf for a nameserver. I cannot remove those entry.
what coulb be going wrong? and what can i do to fix it?

thanks for any help

regards
