has anyone seen the following messages

"eth0: bogus packet, lenght=XX"

I'm getting them (now that i finally got my 3C501 install)

are there any networking patches that are not bundled with
the 1.0 kernal sources...

Give it up.  The 3C501 is a piece of junk.  Here is what Don Becker
(the author) has to say about it:

    This is a device driver for the 3Com Etherlink 3c501.
    Do not purchase this card, even as a joke.  It's performance is horrible,
    and it breaks in many ways.

    I'll only accept bug fixes, not reports, for the 3c501 driver.

At one time, he was even offering a bounty for all 3c501's that were
destroyed.  For $40-50 you can buy a brand-new ethernet card that can
transfer 400-500 kB/s.
