Again: Exit X mess up with vertical lines (XFree86-2.0 for ATI VGA WONDER XL)

Hi, Linuxers:

I upgraded XFree86 from 1.3 to 2.0. Everything is fine. I can run
all demos, games, applications, but when I exit X-window, my screen messes
up with vertical lines again. XFree86-1.3 also has this problem, but after
patch version, it seems OK for me. Now it happens again. I even cannot get
rid of these vertical lines using alt-ctl-F1 and CTRL-C. Could someone
help me to clean these lines.

My video card is ATI VGA Wonder XL 1M.
   I am using Slackware 1.10
I have no problems using X before I upgrated.

Me too (just so you know it's not isolated).  I recall that some people had
this problem with earlier versions of XFree, and it got cleaned up with some
type of patch.  I ignored it at the time because my v1.3 was working fine.
If anybody is reading this that knows how it was fixed before, maybe they
can enlighten us ?  Thanks.  Scott

1. Q. ATI VGA Wonder XL & Nec MultiSync 3FGx XFREE86 Config request

Hello all,

I have, for the past 4 weeks straight, attempted to get the following hardware
to display XFREE86 but to no avail.

ATI VGA Wonder XL w/ 1MB ram 28000-5 chipset
Nec MultiSync 3FGx

In all the docs I have read and all the configuration programs I have run I
cannot for the life of me get this to work. If anyone has a similiar system
working I would like to correspond with you or have you post this to the news
group.

TIA
John
