Sound Blast 16 w/ SCSI-2

Post by Charles B. Mart » Thu, 09 Dec 1993 01:48:35

Has anyone tried the new Sound Blaster-16 with the SCSI-2 interface yet?
I am concidering getting one in the near future (a month or so) and I
was wondering if the card and the SCSI worked well under Linux.  If it
has been tried and does work, could you please tell me (or post here)
what kernel and library versions that were used.

Also, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the SCSI-2 port supports
a SCSI chain or just one SCSI device.  I haven't read/heard anything
about the card except the adverti*ts.

Thank you very much in advance.

This card has the 1522 Adaptec chips in it, but it LACKS
the boot ROMS (according to what I've heard on comp.sys.ibm.pc.*).
So, it's probably not an ideal card to use with Linux, but
I assume that you would have no trouble using it.

I recently bought one of these cards, so that I'll have the SCSI
option down the line if needed.  It was cheaper to do that than
buy a basic SB16 and then purchase the ASP as an add-on.

But I can't say how it works with Linux, since I haven't installed
it yet.  I may get around to it this weekend, but I've been
putting it off while I wait for my speakers to arrive.

1. Linux Rehat 6.0 ( Mandrake ) New Install - No Sound from Sound Blaster 16 - SCSI

I just installed Linux Mandrake 6.0 (Redhat) on my Pentium II 333 but I
cannoot get any sound out of my Sound Blaster 16 - SCSI (ISA) Sound Card. I
thought this (older) soundblaster would work with minimal fuss, bit I get
nothing. And I am a Linux Newbie so I am not sure how to go in and check and
fix the problem. Any suggestions as to how I should proceed ? I'm not even
sure where to look for the sound driver settings.
