IDE Controller w/ changable IRQ (use as second controller)

IDE Controller w/ changable IRQ (use as second controller)

Post by Eric Gustafs » Wed, 15 Jun 1994 07:52:39

I'm looking for a manufacturer who makes an IDE controller that meets
the requirements of the 'atdisk2' package for linux (allows one to add
a second IDE controller to a machine).  The requirements are that the
controller have jumper selectable I/O addresses 170h vs. 1f0h, and
MOST IMPORTANTLY that the controller have a selectable IRQ 14 vs. ??.

If anyone knows who makes such a board w/ selectable IRQ I would much
appreciate the information.

Thanks,

You've got good timing.  I just bought a GSI model 18V IDE secondary controller
last week.  Seems to work perfectly with DOs although I havent installed
linux yet.  It does fulfill your specifications tho.  Selectable IRQ,
selectable BIOS address.. VERY configurable to avoid interference with
controller #1. I'm using it with an Ultrastor ESDI controller as primary
controller. Look into it.. Was only $50.  GSI's # is 800-486-7800 but they
dont sell it direct... I got it from some place outta computer shopper (sorry
cant remeber which one out of 289374 billion places )

Not quite what you asked for, but..

I have an extra IDE i/f card (tiny ISA) which I can wire to any IRQ
you'd like.  I'll mail it (pre-modified & tested) to anyone who wants
it enough to send me US$25 or C$34.

One only, to the first person to email me for it.

1. Using two ide controllers (internal and external) simultaneously...

Hi all,

I have trouble finding a solution to the following problem:

The internal controller (AMD chipset) is not recognized by Linux
anymore, of course this includes all devices attached to it =)

The external controller I use is a CMD 649.

As always, using Windows 98+ it works fine, the devices on the internal
controller are recognized and work properly.

Under Linux, though, the internal controller is not recognized any more.

Is there a possible chance to have them both activated at the same time?

The external controller uses the ide-scsi module. The internal one might
use this module, too, but I have not figured out to get it going.

The only possible hint I had, was when installing two ethernet cards of
the same type, by alias(ing), if I remember correctly. Is this true for
the internal ide controller?

Thanks in advance,

Carsten Klein
