Linux 1.1.0 + PAS16 + Adaptec 1542B

Linux 1.1.0 + PAS16 + Adaptec 1542B

I've hacked together a Linux system from the Slackware 1.1.2 release, to
which I added the most recent base system (don't ask, it was the lousy CD
distribution I have that forced the issue).  I am anxiously awaiting the
new InfowMagic release, which MAY solve my problems.

Anyhow, I have compiled and installed the Linux kernel 1.1.0, and STILL
have problems with getting any sound out of Mosaic.

I've read a FAQ that said that the PAS16 and the Adaptec 1542B will not
coexist. Is this for SCSI ( I don't use the PAS SCSI), or for sound + SCSI?

Anyhow, all I know is that I've collected som *.au files and showaudio
does NOT play them. Is there another audio player that works better with
Linux + Mosaic?

Thanks...

(anxiously awaiting Slackware 1.2 from InfoMagic...)

Linux 1.1.0 + PAS16 + Adaptec 1542B

Hi -

: I've read a FAQ that said that the PAS16 and the Adaptec 1542B will not
: coexist. Is this for SCSI ( I don't use the PAS SCSI), or for sound + SCSI?

: Anyhow, all I know is that I've collected som *.au files and showaudio
: does NOT play them. Is there another audio player that works better with
: Linux + Mosaic?

Try running splay if you have it.  You'll need a .voc or a .wav file
to test it.  The reason I recommend this is to see if Linux is even talking
to the PAS properly.  (Obv. not to play your .au files)

I've seen errors kinda like this (Not using the adaptec tho, that MIGHT
be the problem.)  The PAS16's int. defaults to 10, which has been known to
cause a problem or three.  I _think_ (hardware people correct me) that int.10
is used by the system.  Not sure.

What I did to rectify the problem  (splay kept coming back and saying
that it couldn't use Int. 10, it was busy) was to recompile the kernel, and
when it came time to config. the PAS, I set it to int. 5, and then disabled
the SBPro emulation.

Give it a try, and g'luck.

1. Probs: PAS16 & 1542B

Hi!
I've got some probs with my PAS16 and 1542B:
If I try to play a MOD-File, following msg is displayed:
-> Sound: DMA timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error?

My Configuration:

PAS16: IRQ 10  / DRQ 3 / BASE 0x388
1542B: IRQ 11  / DMA 5 / BASE 0x330

System: 486dx50 / 8MB Ram + 16MB Swap /  Linux 1.1.49

Hopefully somebody could help.

Thanks in advance.
