four ide drives on single controller - need patches

Post by the Duc » Sat, 04 Jun 1994 06:42:23

I would like to know where to find the at2 patches that let you use
4 ide disks from a single controller....  I found the atdisk stuff,
but that seems to be for 2 controllers with 2 disks each...

and there was some mention of a "ide20" patch... anyone know what
that is, or where to find it so that I can check for myself???

thanks

That's a performance package for IDE hard drives only.

Available from tsx-11.mit.edu under /pub/linux/ALPHA/IDE-performance

You'll need a driver for it.  The standard linux drivers
support only 2 drives per controller (and can give much better
performance with two controllers than with a single controller
with 4 drives).

Ok, how about MFM?.
Other than the cables, do I need anything special to run 3-4 drives on
one controller?

1. Help Mounting 3rd IDE drive on a single KT410A EIDE controller

I have read through countless HOW-TO's FAQ's and README's, looked at the
atdisk2 patches, and still cannot get the third drive recognized by
fdisk -l.

The atdisk2 patch involves modifying a controller's "fingers", and
also was meant for a older kernel.

Directions, pointers to a FAQ I may have missed, or a flat "cant be done"
would be appreciated.
