Error while starting Linux: Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:02

Hi all,

I created a backup image of my linux system's SCSI drive by taking it to a
Win98
machine and using Ghost. Now when I try to boot up my system with that
same SCSI drive, I get the error:
Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:02.

Here are the last few lines before the system stops with the above message:

Detected scsi disk sda at scsi0, channel 0, id 1, lun 0
SCSI device sda: hdwr sector = 512 bytes. Sectors= 8887200 [4339 MB] [4.3
GB]

Transaction block size = 512
Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:02.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Error while starting Linux: Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:02

I recently had this same thing happen at work. Turns out my SCSI driver got
scrambled in the kernel. I recompiled the kernel making sure the SCSI
portions were set correctly and it booted right up with no troubles.

1. Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:02

I am trying to install Linux and I keep get this error and I have
tried several different version of it. It says RAMDISK: Compressed
image found at block 0, out of memory; kernel: mounting root
filesystem; VFS: Cannot open root device 08:02; kernel panic: VFS:
Unable to mount root fs on 08:02.

It is going to be on a 486 80 MHz machine, 32 MB RAM, 540 MB HDD, no
partitions.

any suggestions?
