SB16/ASP support, keyrepeat speed and other troubles

Post by Gary Lawrence Murp » Sun, 03 Apr 1994 21:49:07

So far so good, but I'm still experiencing a few annoying
show-stoppers with the Yggdrasil Linux, and these seem common
enough, I was surprised  to find no explicit mention in the
/usr/docs ... if anyone has these troubles solved, your
learned  experience is  most welcome :-)

At the top of my list is supporting the SoundBlaster 16/ASP card; I
could get sound using IRQ 7/DMA 1, but I have other software that
requires leaving the jumper at IRQ 5, and setting the DMA to 5 for
the 16-bit port makes my zImage halt while loading daemons (at the
point where the 8000Hz sound test occurs)  I've configured with
the partial sound support, including  only the SB and  MPU --- that
latter is a little confusing as my SB docs make no mention of an
IRQ number for the MPU, and using either 5 or 3 with  the SB on 5
results in the lockup (or may have nothing to do with it).

Another  very annoying "feature" of Linux is the speed ;-) I can't
find the place to set the key-repeat rate and the effect is driving
me ccrazy!  How do I adaptt Linux to my sloppy typing habits?

Sound Blaster 16 has no MPU support. If you are compiling 1.0 kernel you
answer NO to the questions about Ultrasound and MPU, they are next to each
other. My guess is that under MPU they mean some hardware card with MPU
(Roland ?) which can coexist with SB16.

1. SB16 ASP supported by LINUX ver.1.1.54?

Does anyone know that if there is a driver that support
my Sound Blaster 16 ASP? My linux os is version 1.1.54,
which supports SB16, but not SB16 ASP, so it doesnot
detect my soundcard at bootup. "cat /dev/sndstat" gives
me message "No such device".
