Hello, fellow linuxers!

I am having a problem with wu-ftpd. I can login anonymously, but I can't get
ftpd to accept real users. I have shadow passwords disabled, both in ftpd
and Linux kernel, and a sincerely cannot find what is wrong. I am out of ideas!

This is what happens when I try to login with my username and password:

220 hal9000 FTP server (Version wu-2.4(5) Sun Oct 2 01:04:12 MET 1994) ready.
Name (hal9000:cmsa): cmsa
331 Password required for cmsa.
Password:
530 Login incorrect.
Login failed.
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ftp>

Any ideas?

Thanx!

Regards,
Carlos Antunes.

1. Shadow passwords, xdm, ftpd, passwd

Made and installed the shadow password package (release 3). Works, except
that:

passwd isn't allowing users to change their password, only root can do
  this.

Xdm doesn't seem to understand about shadows.

ftpd doesn't seem to understand about shadows.

Any pointer to fixing these things?

What else am I likely to encounter?
