Fortran compiler in Linux

Post by Chi-Wang » Thu, 29 Sep 1994 13:15:45

Hi, I have a problem to compile the fortran file in linux. Any
suggestion? Thanks.

===============file to be compile========
                program test
                write(*,*)'input a number'
                read(*,*) x
                write(*,*)x
                end
=======================================

it gave me the result:

darkstar:f77 test.for
ld: malformed input file (not rel or archive) test.for

1. The compiler looks for an extension .f

2. In real Fortran, the code starts at column 7.

So, make a file test.f with contents:

      program test
      write(*,*)'input a number'
      read(*,*) x
      write(*,*)x
      end
^^^^^^^
      |---- and this is the seventh column!

Good luck!

If you rename your file test.f everything should be fine.

1. Fortran and C Compiler for Linux (Ex Apollo Domain Fortran)

Hello!

We have many programmes written in -Apollo Domain Fortran-
that are working on our -Apollo Workstations 425t-.
To give our programmes a good future we decided to
change our platform to PCs and the OS Linux.
Therefore we have to port our fortran-sources to the new OS and
find a new compiler that includes most of the Apollo-Fortran specials
like POINTER-structure.

Which compilers do you recommend that fulfill these demands?
Is there anybody that ever did port a huge number of connected
programmes from Apollo to Linux/Unix?

actual status:                        future status:
- Domain OS 10.3                      - Linux
- Apollo Workstations 425t            - PC
- Apollo Domain Fortran               - COMPILER? (Fortran or/and C)
