How to compile EXPECT was WANTED expect for Linux

Post by fn.. » Wed, 02 Mar 1994 12:16:42

  My earler post may of had the wrong mailing address and it disappeared
from out NNTP server so I am not sure if it made it out.  Since the NNTP
server lost a harddrive I am reposting.

Sorry that you may have to read this twice.

I have expect.alpha.Z which I installed.  It is expect-5.5
Problem is when I compile it the compile dies real fast.
I have Linux .99 pl15, gcc 2.5.8, tcl 7.3   Here is the message.

 I first type ./configure and then do make expect It does not complain
during the configure. but the compile dies real quick.

# make expect
gcc -c  -I. -I. -I./../tcl   -DVERSION=\"5.5.0\" -DDFLT_STTY=\"sane\"
-DSCRIPTD IR=\"/usr/local/lib/expect\" -DTCL_DE* -g  exp_command.c
In file included from expect_tcl.h:15,
                 from exp_prog.h:13,
                 from exp_command.c:56:
expect_comm.h:18: tclRegexp.h No such file or directory
make: *** [exp_command.o] Error 1

I may of also posted the wrong address.  Please send responce to

can help please let me know.  Robert

1. Expect: expect vs. interact

Hey Don or any other expect person:

For comparable uses, which is faster, expect or interact, or is there
any difference?

By comparable, I mean:
    expect {
        -re .+ {
            send_user -raw -- $expect_out(buffer)
            exp_continue
        }
        -i $user_spawn_id -re .+ {
            send -- $expect_out(buffer)
            exp_continue
        }
    }

vs.

    interact

or (I know, slightly different semantics)

    expect {
        "crap" { exit }
        -re .+ {
            send_user -raw -- $expect_out(buffer)
            exp_continue
        }
        -i $user_spawn_id -re .+ {
            send -- $expect_out(buffer)
            exp_continue
        }
    }

vs.

    interact {
        "crap" { exit }
    }
