Please help me for XF86Config

Post by Po-ting » Wed, 30 Nov 1994 00:01:25

I just upgraded my Linux from using X11R5 to X11R6 and used the ConfigXF86
script to create the XF86Config, it did not work and has following error
message. Actually the values of this new XF86Config are the same as Xconfig
of my old X11R5 and it worked before. My system has the hardwares listed
(Orchid_Fahrenheit_1280_Plus-VLB and NEC-3D). Could somebody please tell
me what is wrong?

Thanks,

Hate to point this out, but did you notice the lines marked above as
'EDIT THIS!'??  Ah, you have now eh?? ;). Explanation: these lines
define the performance limits of your monitor, and by default they
are set to these low values so that they won't blow anybody's monitor.
Second effect is that most graphic modes won't work (as you found out)
and this forces you to edit the config file and put your own values in.
What you need to do is change these values and replace them with the
correct figures for your monitor. Have a look at the man page for
XF86Config for a detailed explanation of what is valid.

two lines of your server output:

Quote:> (--) S3: Mode "800x600" needs hsync freq of 40.00 kHz. Deleted.
> (--) S3: Mode "800x600" needs hsync freq of 45.09 kHz. Deleted.

and three lines of your config file you posted:

Quote:>     BandWidth 25.2 # EDIT THIS!
>     HorizSync 31.5 # EDIT THIS!
>     VertRefresh 60 # EDIT THIS!

any idea ???
if not, RTFR!
