Plug-and-Play Linux (fall 94) and EtherExpress PRO - any words of wisdom?

Post by Robert M Atki » Wed, 22 Feb 1995 09:03:50

I'm trying to install the fall 94 edition of "Plug-and-Play Linux)
(Yggdrasil) from the Walnut Creek CDROM on a system with an Intel
EtherExpress PRO ethernet card in it. The standard installation
doesn't seem to find the card. The "manual" (CDROM insert) suggests
that the Intel EtherExpress is compatible hardware, but I'm not
sure if the EtherExpress PRO is or not.

Has anyone got the EtherExpress PRO working with Plug-and-Play?
Does it need a specific I/O address and Interupt? Mine is configured
to I/O 300h with IRQ set to 10.

The "manual" section on forcing ethernet detection (p28) seems to
suggest that forced detection of an EtherExpress card (PRO??) isn't
supported.

Any comments would be most welcome. I'm very new at this!

The EtherExpress _PRO_ isn't supported by Linux (according to the
Ethernet.HOWTO, dated just a few weeks ago).

And guess which card I have? :-(

(now that I have to buy a new card, should I just get an NE2000 clone?)

The driver for the Intel EtherExpress Pro/10 is available for
beta testing.  If anybody is interested, please contact me.
