Help needed: Adaptec 1740, Kernel Panic

Post by Petri Edelma » Wed, 16 Nov 1994 22:46:48

I'm using Adaptec 1740 SCSI controller and it has worked fine
until I added another drive (IBM OEM 0664 / 2Gb) to the system and
started receiving news from the net. Under this heavier i/o
load the system hasn't been up for a single day!

First I tought it could be a disk error, but I have run surface checks and
even tried different disk without any help. Has anyone else experienced
problems with AHA-1740? Does this indicate an error in the device driver
or could it be in the card itself?

I'm using Slackware kernel version 1.1.52.

Some times it has complained about different scsi id 1 and once
I got another kernel panic ("Kernel panic: aha1740.c: unable to
allocate DMA memory). But every time there has been this
"Non-extenede sense key" error...

What should I try next? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

as I cannot rely on this system at the moment.

Here is the end of the latest trace to console:
