HELP!! Ghostview Printing

Post by kc » Fri, 10 Feb 1995 17:11:48

Hi,

While in ghostview I'm attempting to printout the Network
Admin Guide, however each time I select the print command it asks
for the printer device and I've tried all that I know with no success (i.e.,
lp, lp0, lp1, lp2, and lp3 my  /dev/printer is not initialized). This seems
real strange since I can successfully print files by executing "lpr
<file_name>" with no problem ?! Can someone please tell me what to do ?

Thank you!

Keith

P.S. I'm trying to print the postscript Network Guide on an HP LaserJet IIP
printer and hopefully the utility "ghostview" does all that's needed to
translate/interpret the postscript language for my printer ? -thnx again.

This is probably the least elegant solution but it works.  When you select lpr
in the PrintFile option, do you notice a file named lpr in your directory?  I
don't know what I'm doing wrong but I can at least output the file.
Apparently, GS prints the output to lpr which I can "cat lpr | lpr -Pprinter".
It may not work for you and I'm not sure why it works for me but it does.
