X11R6/XFree 3.1 shared library problems (Linux)

I pulled the XFree86 3.1 distribution compiled up for Linux
from somewhere, I think ftp.cdrom.com.  The shared libraries
in it appear to be wrong!  The applications call for libXthis
and libXthat at version number 6.  The shared libraries supplied
in the distribution are all version number 3.  What's going on?

Where is the official final clean-as-whistle distribution?

Oh, and if you use a Spider 64 VLB card with this software,
please send me your config file.

  I have successfully installed XFree86 X11R5 on my home machine, but recently
decided to try and install X11R6 along with the new revision of Slackware with
no success.

  The setup includes a 486SX machine with 8MB ram.. 420WD HDD, SVGA monitor
(does interlaced 1024x768) along with a Trident 9400cxi MKII VL-VGA card with
1MB ram installed.

The error, as reported by XFree is as follows...
