Buying the perfect Linux SVGA monitor ADVICE

Post by Synetek Consulti » Fri, 17 Mar 1995 11:03:07

Hello... I am extremely interested in purchasing a 17"+
monitor for my Linux box.  I'm trying to decide what the best
monitor to purchase would be in the $700-$1100 range.  Any advice
would be greatly appreciated.

1. ADVICE NEEDED FAST: which of these 2 monitors would *you* buy???

I'll second that.  Buy the NEC if you want the NEC name.  Their monitors
are typically a bit overpriced, and usually support much lower resolutions
than you'd expect based on CRT size.

The best thing to do is find a big store like CompUSA and actually see the
monitors in use.  Picture quality can vary quite a bit from brand to
brand.  Take a look at Nanao too.  I'm doing 1100x825 at 58.6 kHz 67.5 Hz
on a Nanao, and would be doing higher res at a higher refresh rate, but
the video card can't handle any faster in 16-bit mode.
