Ports below 1024 are restricted to superuser only. Also, many of these ports
are taken for use during booting time. Looking at your error message i would
say that this is your, and also mine problem. You need to redirect another
port (1119 for example) to port 119 of the remote news server and use this
port in Netscape. The same things most surely will also hold for you mail port.

:   $ tredir 119 remote_newsserver.net:119
:     Redirecting 119 to remote_newsserver.net:119
:     Port is already bound.
:     Nothing to do.
:  $

Read /etc/inetd.conf _carefully_ and you will know what to do to fix this

:   Firing Netscape and trying to read News, I get the message reading
: 'Can't talk to the NNTP server myhost.home.net:119'
Point to 127.0.0.1 as the NNTP server if for some reason that doesn't work

:  This happens whether or not other ports of localhost are redirected
: to corresponding ports on the same remote host.

:   Redirecting ports other than 119 works fine without any problem.
That's because they aren't bound yet

1. TERM tredir 119 119 problems

Hello!
I just got term working ( almost:-) ). I am trying
to use tredir so I can use my local tin news reader. I
am using tredir 119 119. I get the following error message:

Redirecting 119 to 119
Connect: No such file or directory

I am running the command as root on my local machine which
is Slackware 1.1.2, Linux 0.99.15, term112. The remote machine
is a Sun sparc2. The only thing I have done is commented out
the nntp entry in my /etc/inetd.conf. Before I did that I
would get the message:

Port is already bound or some such error. s = -1

Also, if anyone out there could send me some useful tredir
commands, I would appreciate it. Please reply by email, I
will post a summary if their is interest.
