Networking 2 or more Linux machines

Post by I.R.Shatwe » Thu, 07 Jul 1994 18:27:43

I have Linux set up on 2 machines, with another 2 or 3 to follow soon,
and am trying to set up the network links between them.  So far the
networking is sufficient to allow rlogin to work, but telnet and ftp
give a message about the server shutting down.  When I checked what
processes were running there was no sign of anything resembling ftpd or
telnetd on either machine.  Could somebody please say how these daemons
should be started automatically on boot up.

Typing "man telnetd" is usually faster than posting a question to
usenet. Of course, you'll have to read the other man pages recommended
by the telnetd man page.

OK, you should check the following files:

1) /etc/rc.d/rc.inet2
uncomment the section: starting inet superdemon (inetd !!)
2) /etc/inetd.config
uncomment or create what should be fired up on requests (i.e. ftpd...)

This is for my slackware version!

If you have problems, send me an email and I will send you my configuration
files...
Cheers, Sebastian

1. Network between Win 3.11/Win 95 machine and Linux machine

The problem that I have is that I want to use internet stuff, and
other junk from my linux machine, but my modem is on the WIN 3.11 machine.
Currently I am running a network when both computers are w\running
workhgroups and this works well, but due placement of phone lines, I can't
get a connection to the room where the linux machine is. It is the superior
machine as well, so obviously this would be advantagious.
        Put shortly

I want to link my linux computer to my windows 3.11 computer and
running use the internet.  And if possible the printer (HP 540).

Thanks in advance
