XFree memory problems

Post by Todd M. Vanderwou » Sun, 30 Oct 1994 11:01:10

A friend of mine is trying to configure his X server to use the virtual
desktop.  It won't allow him to go any higher than 1024x768.  When he
does (1280x1024) it says that there isn't enough memory.  He has 8Mg
of ram and an 8Mg swap file.  Is this a problem with the new XFree?  It
used to work for me, and my system is even more limited than his.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ok, how's this for a suggestion - think how XFree can possibly manage
to get that virtual desktop scrolling about so *very* quickly.

Hint: I doubt he's got eight megs on his video card, eh?

:-)

Cheers,

1. More memory=new problems with XFree?

I recently added 64M ram to my PPro 200 Linux box (RH 5.1).
Things
work OK, but ... when I shutdown (-r or -h), the screen
flashes a scond and displays some text at a VERY low res text
mode. Seems to
correlate directly with the addition of the new memory! Any
clue as to why this should be? I went from 32M to 96M, if it
matters.
