No Sound (Sndscape Vivo; Mandrake 6.0)

No Sound (Sndscape Vivo; Mandrake 6.0)

Post by Tim Fris » Fri, 30 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I currently have a Ensoniq Soundscape Vivo 90 PnP sound card running
fine under Win95.  When I use sndconfig under Linux-Mandrake 6.0, the
autoprobe does not recognize the sound card.  So, I manually configure
the DMA's and IRQ's for the card using the same settings as those in
Win95.  Still no sound.

Any suggestions?

Win95 settings:
Class: Sound, video and game controllers
Device: ENSONIQ SoundscapeVIVO Plug and Play
Resources:
        IRQ: 05
        IRQ: 09
        I/O: 0330h-033Fh
        I/O: 0530h-537h
        I/O: 2100h-213Fh
        DMA: 01
        DMA: 03

sndconfig settings:
I/O Port: 0x530 (I tried 534, but I got device conflict message)
IRQ: 5
DMA 1: 1
DMA 2: 3
MPU I/O: 0x330
MPU IRQ: 9

Thanks.

Does the BIOS have the option to turn off PnP?
Ihad to do that in order to get my sound card to work...

1. Linux Rehat 6.0 ( Mandrake ) New Install - No Sound from Sound Blaster 16 - SCSI

I just installed Linux Mandrake 6.0 (Redhat) on my Pentium II 333 but I
cannoot get any sound out of my Sound Blaster 16 - SCSI (ISA) Sound Card. I
thought this (older) soundblaster would work with minimal fuss, bit I get
nothing. And I am a Linux Newbie so I am not sure how to go in and check and
fix the problem. Any suggestions as to how I should proceed ? I'm not even
sure where to look for the sound driver settings.
