Problems installing Linux on IBM ValuePoint DX33

booting with the bare disk, I was required to enter specific ramdisk
setting at the prompt. I used my CMOS setting : ramdisk hd=722,16,36
Installing then seems to procede properly. with an exception: the
HD light didnt work. I heard however its carateristic noise during R/W.
At the end of the installation, I tried to run Linux using the boot disk,
it craches and stopped booting.

any help would be appreciated.

1. Problem installing Slackware on IBM Valuepoint

I am probably asking a very common question, but I haven't seen
reference to it anywhere in the docs.  Hopefully someone can help me.

I am trying to install the latest Slackware on an IBM Valuepoint
100DX4/Dp.  I've actually got the system installed and I'm essentially
trying to shake the bugs out.  First, I cannot boot Linux from the
hard disk (a Quantum 540 IDE).  Lilo starts to load, prints "LI" up on
the screen and just stops.  I had the setup program create a boot
floppy for me to get around this, but it only boots up so far and ends
with a kernel panic.

Does anyone have a clue what I need to do to get around these
problems?
