What happens when you cat a file into /dev/lp1 ?

Try this:    cat /etc/profile >/dev/lp1

1. The SCSI kernel in Slackware 1.2.0 gives parallel printing

If you want parallel printing and networking ready to go (even if you
have no SCSI devices) install the scsikernel.  Especially as recompiling
and reconfiguring gives problems in setting up the networking if you
have installed the non-scsi kernel.  It took me about 4 hours to find
this out! Don
