PPPOE Help Needed

PPPOE Help Needed

Post by me » Wed, 27 Dec 2000 06:32:35

I need to get PPPOE running on my Caldera version based on the 2.2
kernel (kde). It seems the best thing to use is the roaring penguin
software. The instructions are a bit much for me as I am brand new to
Linux. Can anyone help me with this PPPOE setup? E-mail responses
preferred. Thanks a lot.

Download, the latest rpm of PPOE that you need from Rufus at
http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=rp-pppoe

This will give you a new feature, then:
        1) install it (it should install in /usr/sbin/)
        2) start it with the command, adsl-setup
        3) answer the questions:

                b) Ethernet interface number, ie, 0
                c) Link on demand or stay up permanently - enter "no" for permanent
                d) Primary DNS, ie, 00.0.000.00
                e) Secondary DNS, ie, 00.0.000.00
                f) Enter your account password, ie <password>
                g) Choose system firewall protection, ie, 1 (standalone system)
                h) Accept changes, ie, yes

        4) adsl-start

That's it you should be connected.
Other commands you need are:
        adsl-stop
adsl-status (checks to see if line is up)

1. PPPOE Help Needed

I hope this hasn't been answered yet but here it goes.

I am trying to setup a RedHat 6.1 server as a firewall between ADSL
connection and a home computer.

I am trying to setup as follows:
eth1 as dsl with rtl8139 driver using pppoe from
http://www.roaringpenguin.com/
eth0 as home lan with ne2k-pci

Currently I have support for both cards in the kernal.
I have recompiled the kernal with ne2k-pci support and rtl8139 mod.

Neither way seems to work. I can either set it up to connect to dsl and not
bring up eth0 or connect to the lan but I can't connect to dsl.

Any ideas??? Please be easy on me and I will provide any info needed

Thanks in advance
