tcsh HOSTTYPE is i386-linux, should be i386?

I received the 6.04 version of tcsh from the slackware
distribution and also built my own version 6.05. In
both cases the  HOSTTYPE variable was set to i386-linux
instead of what I thought whould be more appropriate: i386.
Tcsh has another variable for the os-type; I think it is called
OSTYPE !!!

Are there things out there relying on tcsh's HOSTTYPE being
i386-linux?  Or can I safely change it to i386?  Which should the
tcsh distribution have?
