I apologise in advance for bringing up what must be a common question,
but where can I get XFree86 v.2?  The version that came with my Linux
CD around the end of this summer does not support the S3 chipset, and
the ftp sites pointed out by the docs all say, don't bother me; get v.
2; you won't be sorry.  So, where can I get this thing, or files with
which to patch what I have?

Thanks in advance.

Try sunsite.unc.edu.  Look in the /pub/Linux dir.  From there it's in X11
or XFree or something like that.  BTW, sunsite has a very decent
selection of files for Linux and Xfree as well as other stuff...

One possibility is to ftp to sunsite.unc.edu and look in the
directory /pub/Linux/X11/XFree86-2.0.
