Help with Logitec busmouse

Post by Ron Watki » Sun, 13 Mar 1994 21:39:30

I have a Logitec busmouse. It's configured to IRQ5 in the hardware jumpers.
I did a standard slackware 1.1.2 install and it configured /dev/mouse to point
to /dev/bmouselogitec. As far as configuration, that's all I know about. Now
when trying to start X, I get:

Fatal server error:
Cannot open mouse (no such device)

I have my Xconfig file setup as:

busmouse        "/dev/bmouselogitec"

I have also tried:

busmouse        "/dev/mouse"

I don't know what to do? How can I find the difficulty that X is having
with my mouse? Is there some manual page describing this? I ran a find on
mouse in all the /usr/man tree, but didn't find anything interesting. Is there
someone out there who might know where I should be looking? FAQ? Which one?
I have read the README.config and such but it just sais that the X server
gets this error when 99.999% of the time, it's the configuration of the mouse
that's the fault of things. How can I find out how to configure my mouse?

This is where you go wrong: /dev/mouse should point to /dev/cua0 (or /dev/cua1)
because /dev/bmouselogitec is a device driver on its own. If you install it
like this, it must work.

[Other stuff deleted]

When I was grabbing Slackware for a friend recently, I looked at the
configuration "log" files for the bootdisks (e.g., bareboot, scsionly, etc.).

Those logs showed that *none* of the available kernels had any type
of busmouse configured into the kernel.  I didn't do the install, but
I asked him just to make sure that he had a serial mouse.

So unless Slackware 1.1.2 does something other than just copy the
kernel you boot with when installing, this person is going to
need to reconfigure his kernel.

1. Logitec Lost my Logitec Busmouse with PL12

My logitec busmouse has stopped working upon installation of Alpha-PL12 of
7 Aug.  Major 10, minor 0, /dev/mouse is linked to /dev/bmouselogitec.

I can still boot PL11 and it works fine with my X server, but with PL12, it
gets sucked down to the lower right-hand corner of the screen and stays there.
At least some Button presses still work -- just motion is hosed.

I believe this was just answered recently, but the news has expired from
my machine.

The mouse is a Logitech MouseMan Bus M/N: M-PD13-9MD.

Email welcome.
