lp0 NOT RECOGNIZED WITH POWER ON

Post by Barry Toln » Thu, 03 Nov 1994 00:11:31

My kernel  does not recognize the printer  on /dev/lp0 at boot up when
the printer is powered on, but it  works fine with the printer powered
off during boot up and then  turn the printer on.  With the printer ON
during bootup it  says "lp_init: no devices  found"  or something like
that, and ith  the printer  off it gives  the usual  "/dev/lp0  (using
polling   driver). Does anyone  know  why this  could  be.  Here's the
configuration:  Compaq   Presario 850   with an   HP Laserjet IIIp  on
/dev/lp0 (LPT1: in DOS, address 0x03BC, IRQ 7), Kernel version 1.0.9.

Can I solve this by upgrading to a newer kernel, or have I bungled
something somewhere?

1. LaserJet4p power off not recognized

I've a problem with my LaserJet 4p. The kernel does not recognize if
the printer is power off and prints happy into nowhere. The version
I am using now is 1.0.8 (Slackware 1.2.0), but I had the same problem
with my last kernel 0.99p??.

The kernel does know if the LaserJet 4p is offline or out of paper.
MS-DOS and MS-Windows running on the same machine do know if the
LaserJet4p is power-off or off-line or out-of-paper (it seems not to be a hardware
problem of the printer). The kernel does know if my DeskJet 550c
connected to lp2 is power-off (or offline or out-of-paper).
But he refuses to stop printing when the LaserJet4p is power-off.

Has someone an idea how to solve this problem?
