Hi,
after several days of trying to fix everything myself, I am getting a bit
desperate, since I still do not understand what is going wrong. I hope,
somebody can help me out. I checked all the FAQ's etc.
My system is a P60 with 8MB, Trident9440AGI videocard, 540 MB ide hd
floppydrive, Mitsumi atapi ide cdrom, MediaExpert soundcard on irq5
Suprafax 14k4 modem
I have a kernel v1.1.89 with drivers properly installed for atapi ide cdroms
and iso9660 filesystem. I did not include drivers for soundcards. My system
starts up using lilo on the harddisk. I use the Linux-distribution from the
Slackware 2.1 distribution.
In my fstab file I define all disks properly( at least I think so)
/dev/hda1 msdos /os2 defaults
/dev/hda2 ex2 / defaults
/dev/hdb iso9660 /var/adm/mount ro
/dev/fd0 ext2 /floppy defaults
All directories mentioned exist!
PROBLEM 1
---------
First of all after starting up, I get the listing at the end of this mail,
where as you can see some things do not seem to work properly:
the cdrom and floppydrive are not mounted. An error message is issued.
In fact I cannot mount /dev/fd0 . If I type
mount -t ext2 /dev/fd0 /floppy
with a floppy with ext2 filesystem on it. It replies
/dev/fd0 is not a mounting point
??? What goes wrong ???
If I do a raw write using dd onto /dev/fd0 everything works fine?!
PROBLEM 2
---------
On startup my modem is on and I can see it is communicating with
the computer(lights flash on etc.) It seems to be recognized and
then it hangs. I cannot get thru to the modem. I checked with
setserial /dev/cua0 what could be wrong and it all seems to be oke.
irq=4, UART=16650A etc...
I didn't tinker with the rc.serial file in /etc/rc.d
I tried to find out if some other process locked out the irq4.
But I couldn't find anything.
Is there something I should set??
What could I try to pinpoint the source of all this trouble?
How could I solve it?
Thanx, Jiri
