I can't get the printer daemon to work at all.
After login my running processes look like this:
PID TT STAT TIME COMMAND
1 ? S 0:00 init auto
63 1 S 0:05 -sh
3 ? S 0:01 /etc/update
47 2 S 0:00 /bin/getty tty2 9600
40 ? S 0:00 /etc/syslogd
28 ? S 0:00 /usr/etc/inetd
48 3 S 0:00 /bin/getty tty3 9600
45 ? S 0:00 /etc/lpd
49 4 S 0:00 /bin/getty tty4 9600
99 p0 R 0:00 ps x
If I run lpc I cant bring the daemon up either:
# lpc
lpc> status
lp:
queuing is enabled
printing is enabled
1 entry in spool area
lpc>
?Invalid command
lpc> up lp
lp:
printing enabled
couldn't start daemon
lpc> up all
lp:
printing enabled
couldn't start daemon
lpc> q
The file permissions are set:
-rwx--S--- 1 bin lp 37892 Nov 19 1992 /etc/lpd
-rwx--S--x 1 root lp 21508 Nov 19 1992 /usr/bin/lpc
-rwx--s--x 1 root lp 17412 Nov 19 1992 /usr/bin/lpq
-rwx--s--x 1 root lp 17412 Nov 19 1992 /usr/bin/lpr

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root lp 9220 Nov 19 1992 /usr/bin/lptest
My spool directory and lp1 look like this:
/usr/spool:
total 3
drwxrwxr-x 2 root lp 1024 Nov 15 22:48 lp1
-rw-r--r-- 1 root lp 3 Nov 15 22:54 lpd.lock
drwxrwxrwx 2 bin bin 1024 Nov 15 22:25 uucp
/usr/spool/lp1:
total 5
drwxrwxr-x 2 root lp 1024 Nov 15 22:48 .
dr-xr-xr-x 4 root root 1024 Nov 15 22:47 ..
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root lp 4 Nov 15 22:48 .seq
-rw-rw---- 1 daemon lp 78 Nov 15 22:48 cfA004pacolopez
-rw-rw---- 1 root lp 9 Nov 15 22:48 dfA004pacolopez
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root lp 0 Nov 15 22:41 lock
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root lp 0 Nov 15 22:42 status
As far as I can tell, I followed the instruction in the printing HOWTO exactly.
I am running 0.99p13 with the tcpip package from the MCC dist. Networking
is set up and telnet works fine (I am a single node).
Any suggestions?
Steve
