1. variety of the eternal RH 6.1 printer problem
Hi,
I can't get my HP682c working in RH6.1 and I'm about out of
things to try. Below are the results of some of the diagnostics I have
tried, as I find out about them (newbie speaking..):
insmod -v /lp.0 produces:
./misc/lp.o: unresolved symbol parport_unregister_device_R2gig_fd2716c3
./misc/lp.o: unresolved symbol parport_enumerate-R2gig_fa12f00f
./misc/lp.o: unresolved symbol parport_release_R2gig_060e6bd6
./misc/lp.o: unresolved symbol parport_claim_or_block_R2gig_21bc7053
./misc/lp.o: unresolved symbol parport_register_device_R2gig_3a079dee
conf.modules contains;
alias scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
pre-install pcmcia_core /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia start
/etc/printcap contains:
##PRINTTOOL3## LOCAL cdj670 300x300 letter {} DeskJet670 Default 1
lphp:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/lphp:\
:mx#0:\
:sh:\
:lp=/dev/lp0:\
:if=/var/spool/lpd/lphp/filter:
(of course 'lphp' is what i chose to call it)
at the end of dmesg I found these references:
parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [SPP,ECP,ECPEPP,ECPPS2]
parport0: detected irq 7; use procfs to enable interrupt-driven
operation.
parport0: no IEEE-1284 device present.
lp0: using parport0 (polling).
lp0: using parport0 (polling).
I went looking for procfs. It doesn't seem to be in my system. On the web
I found a number of references to procfs all concerning the ftape setup
in Linux 2.1.13. Seems there was a discussion of a bug in it at that
time.
Why should I need a proc(?) associated with a tape drive? I have none. It
must be re. the parport?
What do I do next, please? Try other printer drivers or?/ I'm really lost
here!
Any and all help welcomed!
Thank you,
james
