dip -t error 'host name look up failure'

Post by MatThew B. Thoms » Thu, 15 Sep 1994 14:13:54

While trying to run "dip -t" I'm getting the error message
"Host name lookup failure."

Any suggestions?  I have the 'a' and 'n' series installed, and have already
run netconfig.  All those settings are correct.

Thanks for any help,

        Check your resolv.conf file and make sure that it is
 setup correctly (/etc/resolv/conf).. anothing to check is
 that your hostname is only one word, no dots or anything.
 This is what is messing up a few people on campus because CSU
 stuck that .async into the addresses thus driving dip crazy.
 Trying lying to it and telling it you are you.csuohio.edu or
 hostname=you, domain=.async.csuohio.edu

1. DIP 'Host name lookup failure'.

I have just recently trying DIP on my Linuxbox. Suddenly I get this
frustrating message when I try to fire up DIP. 'Host name lookup
failure'. I have checked /etc/hosts, /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/host.conf
about 4hundred times and I can't see anything wrong in them. Can anyone
give me a hint?
