Where are the man pages?

Where are the man pages?

Post by Steve Bro » Wed, 10 Aug 1994 16:23:55

Help!  Does anybody know where I can find the text for the man pages for
the C library functions?  I have the Fall 1993 Yggdrasil edition.  I have
looked all over my CDROM for all possible manpage paths, put them all in my
MANPATH, and still can't find such simple things as manpages for:
    fopen
    fgets
    directory
    ...
that all good Unix systems should have.  I would particularly like to see
"semaphore" related man pages, to do some experimenting.

If anybody knows where they are hidden on the CDROM, please let me know.
Alternatively, if anybody knows of an ftp site where I can get these
manpage texts, please let me know where/what.

Thanks for your support.

1. Standard man pages to "Catted" man pages!

To Anyone Interested:

How does one take a standard "troff"ed (?) man page that comes
with a package off the net (ending in .1, .2, etc) and turn in into a
compressed, "cat"ted man page (ending in .1.Z, .2.Z, etc) that are
stored in the directory /usr/man/catN (N = 1,2,3,...) that can be read
by the standard man utility that comes with the SLS distribution?  I'm
sure that this is trivial to do, and is probably written down
SOMEWHERE, but I've got only so many hours a day I can spend reading
FAQs and HOWTOs.  Thanx in advance...
