Recompile the kernel source code.

Or, get a newer version of Slackware!
1.2.0 isn't nearly the latest, and doesn't come with kernel 1.1.95
as you say. Slackware 2.2 is coming soon, so you may want to wait,
unless of course, your life depends on it...

Who ever heard of a newsreader that won't post unless you put more
new text in than old text??? That is why I have to write this.

I hope so.

Hmmmm, don't think he can recompile the source code if he can't
start the system at all.  I would think that Yair needs a new
kernel, or a 486 to install on first (as it has an NCP)

Normally, the compiled kernel in the Slackware will not have Math
emulator because some mechines need not math emulator such as 486DX,
Pentinum or 386 with 387.  So recompiling the kernel can enable the math
emulator definitely.

Er... You will probably (I'm sure) have to recompile the kernel
with math-emulation-on, or get it from an ftp-server. BTW, how did you
get such a kernel... I think all distibutions have kernels with compiled-in
math emulation since then they works on both x87 and no-x87 machines...

Well, if the system won't boot, recompiling the kernel could get
a bit tricky...

Sorry, ignored.

Try to get a standard boot disk to boot Linux and then install a
precompiled kernel which come from the Slackware.  Normally, the
precompiled kernels are OK.  remember to execute LILO to remap the image
of the new kernel.

But I suggested to reinstall the whole linux system from the slackware
which have a easy and automatic installation script.

Ok, what you need to do is prepare a boot disk which has math
emulation built in. :-)

I am not sure if there is a SlackWare boot disk which has this
included or not, but check out the site (or CDROM, whatever)
where you got SlackWare, and you will find a number of boot
disks.

If you are still having trouble after that, i.e. you cannot
find one to suit you, mail me and I will try and help out.

: please HELP me.

Cheers,
Matthew

1. 1.1.95 does not boot (for me)

hello dear Linux developers,

For about a year I upgrade my kernel myself (making steps of +/-
0.0.10)

I *always* got 100% functionality (last ones were 1.1.61, 1.1.85)

Yesterday I compiled 1.1.95 (from sunsite linux-1.1.95.tar.gz) (with
gcc 2.6.3, 1.1.85 was also compiled with gcc 2.6.3) and the system
starts but halts in between (sorry I don't have Linux here).

VFS mounted (readonly)
and                         <= no prograss from here
init[xxx] ...

has anybody experienced a similar problem ? I don't (yet) use modules.

Greetings,

--marc.
