Yggdrasil man page problems

Post by Jim Harki » Wed, 15 Jun 1994 07:41:58

I've got the Yggdrasil Summer 94 CD-Rom and some of the networking man
pages are in a format I've never seen before (it's not man, ms, me, or mm).
For example, here is the start of the rcp man page:

.Dd July 27, 1991
.Dt RCP 1
.Os BSD 4.3r
.Sh NAME
.Nm rcp

etc.

Not all man pages are like this, some are in normal 'man' macros.  Can
someone give me the magic incantation needed to read my man pages?

thanks.

Get any recent man and "man rcp" will do. (I just checked, and the man
on the Yggdrasil Summer 94 CD-Rom indeed fails to work, but man-1.3
and man-1.4 work correctly.)

You can also format the page "by hand", using the doc macros.

1. Standard man pages to "Catted" man pages!

To Anyone Interested:

How does one take a standard "troff"ed (?) man page that comes
with a package off the net (ending in .1, .2, etc) and turn in into a
compressed, "cat"ted man page (ending in .1.Z, .2.Z, etc) that are
stored in the directory /usr/man/catN (N = 1,2,3,...) that can be read
by the standard man utility that comes with the SLS distribution?  I'm
sure that this is trivial to do, and is probably written down
SOMEWHERE, but I've got only so many hours a day I can spend reading
FAQs and HOWTOs.  Thanx in advance...
