SMAIL/Slackware 2.0 problem

SMAIL/Slackware 2.0 problem

Post by Mikem » Wed, 05 Oct 1994 06:50:33

I know this has been mentioned already, but the solutions
don't SEEM to help me.

Problem:
Running smail, I get problems with uuname calls. The
error says something about uuname output not being
        correct...Route problems, etc.

Suggested solutions:
Edit the transports file...uncomment last 4 lines, etc

THIS won't work for me... I don't have a transports file.
So, now I have my machine all decked out with slackware 2.0,
but I can't get smail to work. I run a mailing list, so
I need to get it up relatively soon.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
--Mike

Well not really but you can try a few things that will help make your
life easier...

1)  uncomment out the smtp_debug statement in your config (ie turn
    debbugging on).

   Then telnet (your.host.machine) 25
   type
   DEBUG 99

look at the output.  It will show exactly whats broken.

2) type smail -bP all   This will list all the config info that smail
is using on your machine, make sure this is all correct.  I had a
problem and it was because smail was looking in /usr/lib/smail for
config when it actually was in /var/lib/smail/config   creating a
symbolic link fixed all my problems  (smail -bP config_file).

Hope this helps,  I am by no means a smail expert...

1. smail config problem with slackware 2.0

I am running slackware 2.0 with kernel 1.0.9 and smail.
Ther is some problem with sending mail to my uucp provider.
in coming mail works fine but outgoing mail is not.
When sending, the mail went into smail/input and smail/lock ok but when
transferred to uucp spool directory the C* file was ok but the D*
files were set to zero length thus nothing in it.

I tried to mkconfig again but no help.

Can any one suggest any clues ???

Thanks
