 In our lab, we have a few Samsung 17GLs monitors working under Linux/X11R5
with no problems with following video cards:

Paradize WD90C31;
Trident 9400;
Cirrus Logic CLGD5428.

Standard VESA-IBM modes/timings are OK with all of them - try 'em first!
