color_xterm has no color

Post by Don Rub » Mon, 05 Jun 1995 04:00:00

I am using  the X311u2S3 server that was just released (thanks Harald, etc).
though I have been having this problem since starting to use 3.1.1. The
color_xterm has no color (ie. everything is white with black background).
The color_xterm works OK on linux 1.50 running the old xfree 3.0 (I think).
This must be something stupid but I could use the help.

Hmmm.  We had this once but it was due to bad X resource settings.
Check these anyway as these programs don't check that the colours are
contrasting.  Do you get any colour not found messages starting it up
from the command line?

Good call! For some reason the "ls" that comes with the new slackware
distribution doesnt do color, when I got the ls from the "old" 1.50
system it worked. Wonder why the new ls doesn't do color? Thanks....

Try defining an alias in your .bashrc

        alias ls=ls -Fo

If you want is system-wide, put it in your /etc/profile

1. color_xterm has no color on S3 server

When I upgraded to XFree86 3.1.1 S3, the color_xterm no longer produces colors!
If I run from a system using the old xfree and set display to the new system
I get color from that xterm, but if I copy that executable to the new system
and run it I get no color? What is going on?

on a related note, I use fvwm 1.24 (I think), the autoraise feature (the window
the cursor is over gets focus and rises to the top) works only sporadically with
the new XFree, any ideas about that?

Thanks...
